** Advanced Notice of Change of Training Location for Wednesday 4th October **
13 BOROUGHS OF CRAWLEY - Tilgate Wednesday 4th October ~ 18.45 for 19.00 start
Next up in our popular 13 Boroughs series, we take you to our infamous and popular Tilgate. Howver, we have a change of scenery planned for you all.
Due to the dark nights now and the expert planning of the timing of this run (by yours truly), we will host a road on the streets allowing runners to pound the pavements on a loop of Ashdown Drive, Southgate Avenue and Tilgate Way. The route is well lit offering safety with mimimal crossings so we will need approx 4-5 marshals on the night. Strava measures the loop approx 1.7k so 3 x loops will provide you with a 5k distance (or 5.1k to be precise).
We will start on the corner by the Tilgate Parade and aim to get going at 7.00pm sharp. We will gather at Smith & Western Carpark / Tilgate so THERE WILL BE NO TRAINING AT ORIEL on this occasion. With a slight and easy jog down to the start led by our run leades and coaches, runners can opt for as amany or as little as they feel like on the night.
The route heads north up Ashdown Drive to the corner of Southgate Avenue, where we will have a friendly marshal directing you down Southgate to then be greeted by another friendly face turning you onto Tilgate Way following the road down and around to the start to be greeted by myself or one other friendly face who will shout (and encourage) at you to do at least 1 more loop!
Parking can be similar to a Monday evening at Smith & Western or if you would like to park at the Parade or closeby, please feel free to also.
We need at least 4 marshals to direct runners round the course, so if you’re free and not running, please volunteer . Thank you all and see you next week.
Our training run sessions are open to all abilities.
On Mondays and Wednesdays we meet at 6:45pm for a 7.00pm start. On occasion we will vary the location to accommodate our now famous "Boroughs of Crawley" series, so watch this space for details on upcoming sessions.
Our training sessions sees us gather at Tilgate Park, Tilgate Dr, Crawley, RH10 5PQ as we begin our Spring / Summer training program.
These sessions go out through Crawley in well lit areas but please do wear reflective/hi-vis clothing.
Training sessions are £1 per session whether you only attend one session or both.
On Sundays in winter, there are organised long training runs for spring marathon and half marathon runners, usually starting at 09.00am from St Nicholas' Church, Worth RH10 7RT.
During the Autumn and Winter we run around the streets of Crawley and in the Spring and Summer we go off-road into Tilgate Forest and also include some speed work sessions.
The group is divided up in to ability, speed and distance to suit everyone’s training requirements.
No one is ever left behind, distances typically range from 5k upwards depending on the group, conditions and weather.
We take part in the league races on a Sunday once a month and some Wednesday evenings during summer, when there are no WSFRL races on we often take part in other races or meet up to go out for a social Sunday morning run as well as a Friday night social run through Tilgate and Furnace Green, check our Facebook page for details and timings.
Our running coaches are very happy to help those starting out and can help prepare an individual training plan for a particular target or race.
